2014 Sports Capital Programme

Dear Secretary,

Further to my recent email regarding the upcoming 2014 Sports Capital Programme, I have received correspondence from a number of clubs worried that they don’t have a Tax Registration Number and therefore cannot register their club with the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport’s Online Sports Capital Register (OSCAR) which is a requirement for clubs seeking to apply for funding from the 2014 Sports Capital Programme.

As outlined in the Department’s guide to registering with the on line system (see http://www.dttas.ie/sites/default/files/corporate/guide-registering-scp-online.pdf ), the Tax Registration Number (TRN) is the unique identifier used by the Department for each organisation and is also the username for  logging into the system.

Organisations will need written confirmation of their TRN prior to completing the registration process. This confirmation can either be in the form of a tax clearance certificate or a letter from the Revenue Commissioners confirming the TRN.

If the your organisation already has a tax clearance certificate, the TRN is the number at the top left hand corner of the certificate.

What if our organisation does not have a Tax Registration Number?

If the organisation is not a limited company and does not currently have a TRN, obtaining  one is quite simple.

Complete the one page ‘Registration Form for voluntary non-profit making organisations’ via the link  http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/it/forms/frm_volorg.pdf and return to the appropriate Revenue Office  (see http://www.revenue.ie/en/contact/index.html ).

It should take around 10  working days to get written confirmation of the TRN, therefore it is important that clubs act as soon as possible to apply for one as the closing date for registering on OSCAR is  5pm on Friday 7 February 2014.

If the organisation is a limited company, the form to be completed is Form TR2 (see link http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/vat/forms/formtr2.pdf)

In this case,  the company must be registered with the Companies Registration Office prior to application  for a TRN.

I hope that this communication will clear up any queries you may have.

Yours sincerely,

Richard Fahey
