CCFL Week 10 Round Up

The second round of the FAI Junior Cup, and the first round of the Junior Shield took centre stage in the CCFL this week with 22 teams from the league taking part across the two competitions.  Willow Park put six past Navan Cosmos without reply to set up a third round tie against Sunday Wells FC who beat Clonmore United 2-1.  St Peters, despite going behind to a Robbie Hibberts goal with ten minutes to go managed to overcome Mountmellick 3-1 to set up a third round tie against Carrick Rovers and in another all CCFL clash Mullingar Athletic won 3-2 at home to CK Utd.  Edenderry won 3-1 away to Rosenallis while Mostrim were narrowly beaten at home 3-2 by Coill Dubh.  Mullingar exited the competition after being beaten 5-0 away to Duleek.

In the FAI Shield Clonmore, Banagher, Rosenallis B, Arlington B, Monksland United B, Melville Celtic and Derry Rovers B all fell at the first hurdle.  Division 4A side Raheen continued their unbeaten start to the season with an impressive 4-0 win at Rosslare Port, Eddie Dunne(2), Mick Dalton and John Shiels getting the goals for Raheen.  John McIntyre got a hatrick in Ericssons excellent 8-0 win at home to Kill Celtic and Darren Lennon and Bernard Clyne both scored twice for Spartak Granard as they squeezed past St Annes Utd 4-3 after extra time. Edenderry Town B matched the A teams result and progressed 3-1 at the expense of Hamlet Lane Celtic.

Back into the league competition now and the result of the day came in Division 1 where Clonbonny won 1-0 at home to against previously unbeaten Abbeyleix Athletic, a Paddy Martin penalty was all that separated the two teams. In the only other match in the division Stradbally and Temple Villa played out a 1-1 draw.

Two second half goals from James Gallagher and Brian O’Mahoney saw Arlington win the only senior division match of the weekend 2-0 versus Killavilla.

A mark Deneghen goal for Derry Rovers  wasn’t enough as Willow Park scored 4 to put them pack joint at the top of the Premier Division.  In the other Premier division match to played Pio Fitzpatrick was agin on the scoresheet as Shinrone took all three points with a 3-2 win over Clonaslee.

Moate Celtic returned to the top of Division 2 with 3-1 win at Ballybrittas while goals from Robbie Knight and Michael Wilcox seen Gracefield earn a point a home to Birr Town B, the draw seen Moate leapfrog Gracefield back into top spot in the division.  The prolific Stephen Screeney was again on target for Kilcormac but his goal wasn’t enough as they went down 4-1 away to Portlaoise.

In 3A Pullough versus Ballycumber ended all square 2-2, Pulloughs goals coming from Ian McLachlan and Declan Kelly.  Cloneygowan remain top of the division, picking up a point in a 3-3 draw with Daingean Town.

In 3B Clonown picked up their first win of the season, beating bottom of the table BBFC 3-2.

Emo Celtic took full advantage of Raheens involvement in the FAI Junior Shield to move top of the division with a two nil win away to Portlaoise C.  Marybrough won 3-1 at home to Frankford A thanks to a Sean ODriscoll hatrick and Midland Celtic won 2-1 at home to Stradbally which means only one point seperates the top four teams in the Division.

St Carthages put ten past Kilcormac to make it two wins on the trot, Barry Kelly, Wesley Rosnay and Wille Clear all getting hatricks in the game.  Raharney won 7-2 at home to Clara, courtesy of goals from Kevin Smith(2), Daniel McKeegan, Eoin McPhelly, Kevin Flynn and Mick McKadden.

Boro Celtic remain Joint top of Saturday Division 1 despite going down 2-1 at home to Camlin, they are joined in top spot by Grange Utd who had an impressive 4-1 win at Longford Celtic.

A David Monaghan double was enough to put Melville celtic top of division 3 as they overcame previously leaders Mullingar Town B 2-1.

Gracefield continued their impressive start to the Under 17 season with affine 5-2 win at Mullingar Athletic, Jamie Evans got a hatrick to take his tally to eight in the first three games, Jason Knight and Mark Kerwin got the others for Gracefield.

In the youths Division Bidemi Afolabi was again on the scoresheet for Clongowes, this time scoring five against Tullamore, Andrew Gleeson, Peter McCreevy , Mark Dwyer and Kyle Mullen were also amongst the goals in a 9-0 win.

Leaders Abbeyleix kept their 100% record intact, Conor Dunphy scoring twice in their 3-0 win over St Aengus while Edenderry Town won their first match of the season in the under 19 Division with a four one win over Portlaosie, the goals coming from Lee Dempsey(2), Mark Nolan and Evan Farrell.

In the womens division Killavilla, Killeigh and Banagher all won which sees the three teams top the table on seven points.
