CCFL Week 14 Round up
LFA Junior cup 3rd round action saw a local derby between Monasterevin and Arlington. A James Gallagher goal wasn’t enough as to help Arlington as Monasterevin won 2-1. Coolraine lost 2-1 to Moyne Rovers, Corduff beat Ballinahown 4-0 ,Bridge Rovers beat St. Peters, 2-1 while in Wexford it was Crossabeg 3: Mountmellick 9, with Robbie Hibbits (4) John Watchorne (3) Shane O Connell and Karl Donoher the scorers for the Laois team. In Athlone, Hannover Harps lost 3-0 to Willow Park where Gary McHugh, Robbie Shine and Brian Caudwell all scored for the Willow team won famously won this competition two seasons ago.
The blue ribboned CCFL Cup competition, the O’Neills John Farrell Counties Cup was back this weekend and there was potential as always for shocks – some of which occurred in this great Cup competition. Round one action saw, Cloneygowan Celtic beat Rochfortbridge 2-1 ,Clonown lost to Killeigh Ramblers by the odd goal in 5, Emo Celtic beat Raheen on penalties, Daingean town lost at home to Temple Villa, Gentex defeated Div 4 St. Carthages. Moate Celtic lost a cracking cup game in Tullamore on a 1-0 score;
Ballybrittas of Div 2 were shocked by Division 4 leaders East End. In Kilcormac, Frankfort raced into a 3-0 half time lead over Portlaoise however Portlaoise inspired by the half time substitutions came back to win 5-3, Midland Celtic lost out to Abbeyleix in a seven goal thriller, CR Forrest were brushed aside by Millnore Rovers on a 4-0 score line, St. Aengus lost to Melville Celtic for who Corey Jinks got his first goal, Maryborough lost out to Kilcormac Utd. St. James lost to Clonmore Utd but only after extra time while, Gracefield Athletic, going so well in Division 2, lost out to Division 3 team Raharney, and finally Highfield were beaten 5-2 at home to Clonbonney.
In the Senior Division, BirrTowndefeated bottom of the table 1-0 EdenderryTown, and Clara town had an excellent 3-1 home win against Killavilla
In the Premier Division, CK Utd for who Darren Flanagan and Brendan Bracken scored in beating Shinrone on a 2-1 score line. Bottom of the table Clonaslee lost out to the leaders Gallen Utd, Rosenallis and Willow Park B played out a score draw and, Mullingar Athletic B had a big home win over Melville.
In DivisionDynamoTown lost out to Walsh Island while in Division 3A, Edenderry Town B beat Killavilla B. In the final game Portlaoise B scored 6 in a home win over Arlington B who replied with 3.In Division 3B Gallen andRiverside play out an entertaining draw.
In Division 4B Monksland B had young goalie Arron Shine to thank for a draw against Clara Town while Frankfort won against Kilcormac in the local derby in Offaly. In the Women’s Division, Killeigh and Banagher had good wins over Tullamore and Birr Town respectively.
In Youths action, in the FAI under 17 cup CahirPark defeated Killavilla 4-1 after extra time and Portlaoise defeated Portumna 5-1 in Portlaoise. In the under 17 Division itself, Newbridge lost 3-2 at home to the leaders Gracefield for who Sean Finlay (with 2) and Jason Knight scored
Under 19 leaders Abbeyleix lost 1-0 to Tullamore Town , while Mountmellick lost 4-1 at home to an impressive Edenderry Town team. Newcomers Athy Town had Nathan Robinson and Mark Robinson (with 2) amongst the goals in a 3-1 win vs. Portlaoise
In Division 1 Saturday Mostrim had a 2-1 home win vs. Grange Utd who remain top despite the defeat ,but Mostrim’s win keep them in contention with the leaders.
In division 3 Saturday, Mullingar Town have a good 5 – 2 home win against Grange Utd where a hat trick from Ian Massey helped them to their win, while the leaders, Melville Celtic B defeated Ballymahon 1 – 0
In thee Saturday section of the O’Neills John Farrell Counties Cup, Newtownbeat Longford Celtic 5 -1, Dynamo Rooskey for who Seamus Kennedy scored 4 goals in a thumping 6-1 win vs. Granard Celtic. Ballymahon A vs Boro Celtic went all the way to penalties where Ballymahon held there nerve to win through. Carrickboy Celtic lost 3-1 to Inny FC where Barry Harten scored again. In the last tie, Camlin Utd lost 1 nil to Colmcille Celtic in an entertaining and closely contested cup tie.
