Chairman’s address

After only a three-week break from action season 2020/21 gets underway next weekend. While the break might have been short, we need to push on with the new season if we are to have any chance of completing the season by the normal time. In addition, several teams have not played or played very little since last March and would like to get back into action. We have also brought the number of teams in each Division down a little and added another Division 3. We plan to run the Cup competitions in the same way as we have traditionally for a number of years.

In spite of everything we have slightly increased the number of participating teams for the new season. This is encouraging and a clear indication that in the midst of the current pandemic, the escape to play sport is very important for mind and body.

However, with that comes responsibilities. It remains imperative that all clubs, teams and individuals behave in the proper manner to prevent the spread of the virus. For us to continue playing not to mention anything else Clubs must have their Covid Officer in place, they must be able to assist in contact tracing if required, they must practice social distancing as much as possible and have hand sanitiser in place at games.

There is every chance that the season may be disrupted, but we will have to wait and see if this is the case and what the effect might be. If necessary, we will make decisions at that time as to what changes may be necessary. Hopefully this will not be the case.

The committee is also mindful that we have not held our AGM and we have not done anything about presenting the awards for last season. Plans are afoot to deal with both these issues over the coming weeks.

In the meantime, we would like to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable season of football, where we do our best to work together for the good of the game in our region and also create a healthy social outlet for the young people of the Midlands during these trying times.
