Week 34 Roundup
Under 17 Division
The Under 17 Division was decided last Saturday week when Killavilla United overcame a very game Gracefield side in a winner take all final game for both sides. It finished 3-1 in favour of the Roscrea men who have a very talented side that will certainly win more silverware in the years to come. Mullingar Athletic finished third following a big win over mid table Birr Town last Saturday.
Under 18 Division
On Saturday Monksland United leapfrogged Mullingar Athletic at the top of the table with a 1-0 victory. However Mullingar are still favourites to lift the title and a victory over bottom side Rochfortbridge next Saturday will ensure this happens. Monksland have completed their programme. Clongowes Wood look poised to take third place.
Under 19 Division
This contest will also go right down to the wire. Edenderry Town lead the way, but their 1-0 win away to Portlaoise on Saturday was their last League game. Tullamore have three games left against strong opposition in the form of Athy Town, Portlaoise and Abbeyleix. However maximum points will give them the title. Should Tullamore win two and draw one of their remaining games they will force a playoff with Edenderry. Anything less than this and the title will go to Edenderry. Athy and Abbeyleix are still battling it out for third place.
Senior Division
In spite of dropping points in recent games Willow Park are still in pole position in the Senior Division. Seven points from their remaining four games will guarantee they retain their title again. However if they were to slip up Mullingar Athletic are waiting in the wings having defeated St Peters on Sunday to keep the pressure on. Any one of five teams can still claim third spot, while it looks as though Edenderry Town and Birr Town will hold the bottom two slots.
Premier Division
One win from their remaining three games will see Gallen United proclaimed Premier Division champions and a return to the Senior Division. The only teams that can catch them at this point are Mullingar Athletic B or more likely Melville United. However it would require an unlikely sequence of results for this to happen. At the other end of the table Clonaslee are already doomed and will drop out of the division. They could be joined by any one of Shinrone, Derry Rovers, Rosenallis or even Mullingar Town with all of them having three games to save themselves.
Division 1
Stradbally Town lead the way in Division 1 having come back from the dead last Sunday to shock long time leaders Abbeyleix Athletic. However, Abbeyleix will still claim the honours if they beat Ballinahown in their final game next Sunday. Should this game end in a draw then there will be a playoff between Stradbally and Abbeyleix for ultimate honours. Tullamore will finish third. At the other end of the table, St Peters B team along with Highfield and Noreside look to be the teams battling it out to avoid finishing in the bottom two.
Division 1 Saturday
Mostrim United are Division 1 Saturday champions with games to spare. In a competitive division the young Edgwardstown outfit were the class team and deservedly claimed their first title, which was copper fastened with a 4-3 victory away to Inny FC on Saturday.
Division 2
Gracefield Athletic continue to climb the Divisions after claiming the Division 2 crown last weekend following a fine 4-1 win over their nearest rivals Moate Celtic. Gracefield will be joined in Division 1 next year by Moate who easily calimed runners up spot with Walsh Island or Portlaoise going to take third third place. Ballybrittas lost their game away to Gentex on Sunday and with Kilcormac and Coolraine both winning they will finish bottom of the table just behind the two Offaly sides.
Division 3A
Killeigh Ramblers claimed the Division 3A title on Sunday courtesy of a 6-0 thrashing of Rochfortbridge. Second place will go to one of Cloneygowan, Edenderry or Killavilla. The battle at the other end has taken a few twists in recent weeks and any two from five will take up the bottom two places.
Division 3B
There is still plenty of football to be played in Division 3B, but Clara Town B look odds on to take the title. Raharney and Melville Celtic are the only teams capable of catching them, but this looks a very tall order. At the bottom of the table Riverside demise has already been confirmed while Longford side BBFC will also finish in the bottom two.
Division 3 Saturday
Mullingar Town B team are champions in this Division following a very exciting finale last Saturday afternoon. Three teams were still in contention. Melville Celtic did their bit by beating Ballymahon 4-2. The game between the other two hopefuls Mullingar and Spartak Granard was level going into the final minutes before Town were awarded a penalty which they duly converted to get them over the line.
Division 4A
Raheen FC have already claimed the title here after they hammered CR Forest two weeks ago. Second place is certain to go to either Emo or Midlands Celtic where the game between the two will decide who gets the runners up spot.
Division 4B
Frankford United will take this division if they defeat neighbours and bottom of the table Kilcormac United next Sunday. Long time leaders East End are certain to finish runners up following a very good opening season that will end with promotion.
