CCFL Women’s Team….. The Journey …..Part 2

with thanks to Lisa Gardiner

The Combined Counties team played a challenge game against Galway W.F.C. on Wednesday evening 6th of November in Tullamore. It was a very cold night but the support that came was fantastic.

As there is such a large squad of women training, John O’ Dea had a very hard decision to make to pick a panel of only 21 girls including 2 goalkeepers to play in this game.  It was a tough game. As Galway has great experience in playing at this level, they made the combined counties team work very hard for every ball. It was a competitive match and there were strengths on both sides. Galway settled straight away into the game and had early opportunities to strike on goal. Their shooting was precise and accurate. However our combined counties team caused Galway a lot of problems and no ball was given softly. The team showed great potential throughout and with a bit more work they will be a force to be reckoned with in the future. This is our first year as a combined counties team and we learned a lot from playing Galway. Training helps us to develop our skills and fitness that one step further and each and every week we are progressing. Well done to all the girls involved for their effort in the match and for the girls that came and supported their team.
