Week 8 Round Up
Although the weather claimed a huge portion of the fixture list there was no shortage of goals and drama in the matches that did survive.
The Saturday fixtures were largely unaffected by the conditions, only two matches fell victim to the elements.
In Saturday Division 1 Longford Celtic got four goals but had to settle for a point in their 4-4 draw with Ballymahon, Celtics courtesy of R. Stokes, Sylwester(2) and Jamie Noonan. Inny FC travelled to Mostrim and looked to have wrapped up the points by half time. Going in at the break leading 5-1 Inny looked set to grab their second victory of the season, Mostrim however pulled off an unbelievable come back, eventually winning 7-5.
With leaders Grange Utd losing 2-1 at Colmcille, Boro Celtic took the opportunity to join them at the top of the table with a fine 4-1 win over Dynamo Rooskey. All the goals came in the second half, Clem McCormack put Boro ahead and then added a second with a stunning volley from a Jason Tarmey cross. Rooskey replied almost immediately from a free kick however a 25 yard strike from Peter Flynn restored Boros two goal advantage before David Harrison tapped the ball home after Henry Kenny had hit the bar to round of the scoring.
Mullingar Town B remain at the summit of Division 3 following a good 3-1 win at Grange Utd B, Ian Massey got a double for Mullingar and Darren Massey hit the third. Melville Celtic sit in second place after winning 3-1 at home to Spartak Granard, in an extremely tight affair David Monaghan and Owen Oconnor got amongst the goals for Melville. Melville keeper Tom Stephens capped a fine display by saving a second half penalty. Carrickboy Celtic got their first points of the season winning 2-1 away to Granard Celtic.
The youths Divisions are beginning to take shape. In the Under 17s Portlaoise beat Tullamore Town 5-4 to go top of the Division while in the Under 19s goals 2 goals from Patrick O’keefe made it two wins out of two for Abbeyleix, keeper Bonham saved an 85th minute penalty to make sure of the win, final score Abbeyleix 2 Portlaoise 1. In the youths Division Monksland Utd made it two wins in a row with a 4-2 victory in Gallen.
On Saturday evening Willow Park restored their advantage at the top of the Senior Division with a 3-1 win over Edenderry, Willows goals coming from Adrian Hyland, Brian Cauldwell and Brian Fogarty. Lukas in the Willow goal continued the trend of the weekend by saving a spot kick. Monksland United continued their fine form with a 4-2 win at home to Clara.
Paddy Moore and Jonathan Duffy got Gallens goals in their 2-1 win at CK who had Darren Flannigan on the scoresheet. With Willow Park and Gallen now both on 16 points next weeks match between the two certainly looks like the tie of the week. Melville United won 3-0 away to Shinrone to stay in third and Mullingar Town won the Mullingar Derby 3-1 thanks to goals from Keith Hope (2) and Stephen Dailly.
Only one match went ahead in Division one due to the weather, St Peters and Birr sharing six goals in a 3-3 draw.
Gracefield returned to the top of Division 2 winning 3-1 at home to Moate who now drop back to second. Eamon Kelly, Robert Knight and Michael Wilcox getting the goals for Gracefield. In the other match played in division 2, Dynamo Town needed to goals in the last 5 minutes to snatch a point at home to Coolraine.
Edenderry Town overcame second placed Cloneygowan 4-2 in Division 3a, Frank McGuinness, Brian Riley and Darren Hynes double securing the points for Edenderry.
Clara Town B go joint top of Division 3B with a comfortable 7-2 win over Milnore.
In 4A Abbeyleix moved up into third with a 3-2 win over Portlaoise, Chris Stynes, Anthony Coffey and Ryan Peacock the scorers for Abbeyleix. Marybrough continue the fine start to their CCFL debut season, Noel Farrell got the only goal of the game against Rosenallis. A special mention must go to Brendan Molloy and Edward Conroy who both put in fine performances for Marybough.
The result of the day belongs to East End Celtic, Jay Melia(2), Keith Oconnor, Andrew Cavnagh, Gary Clooney, Chris Bryant 1 and Mark Kelly(4) got the goals in their 10-0 win away to Kilcormac. The win stretches East Ends winning start to the season to seven games in 4B.
Two matches went ahead in the Womens Division Killavilla and Tullamore drew 1-1 while Birr took all three points in 3-1 win away to Riverside.
