REPORT: Womans Interleague Fundraiser Blitz

Today Mullingar Athletic hosted the CCFL Ladies in a fundraising tournament to raise funds for the return of the Women’s Interleague team. 12 teams from the CCFL league took part in the event which saw trophies up for grabs for the cup final, shield final, top goal scorer and player of the tournament.

Teams from Mullingar Athletic, Killeigh, Willow Park, Mountmellick, Kinnegad, Bealnamulla and Birr battled it out, all showing great sportsmanship throughout the event. After the group stages, the teams were split into cup quarter finals and shield semi finals.

The fast flowing shield final saw Mullingar Athletic take on Mountmellick and Mullingar Athletic won the game 3-1. The exciting cup final saw Killeigh come out victorious, beating Willow Park 5-1. The top scorer of the day was Laura Peake from Mountmellick. Player of the Tournament went to Susan Spillane of Willow Park. Congratulations and well done to all teams who took part.

The CCFL Ladies sub committee – William Healy, Tony Hurley, Jackie Glennon, Donna Murray and Jenny Madden would like to sincerely thank the many people who gave their time and effort into making today possible.
