The CCFL Youths moved into the 2nd Round of this Years FAI Interleague Competition with a hard fought victory over the Clare League last Saturday the 4th January in Leah Victoria Park Tullamore.
The CCFL started very brightly and played some nice passing football without ever threatening the Clare Goal, however following another well delivered corner Centre Back Oisin Fitzpatrick was fouled right in front of the referee who had no hesitation in pointing straight to the spot. Jamie Fahy expertly dispatched the ball to put the CCFL 1 – 0 up at the break.
The second half started out in the same vain with the CCFL creating the best of the few chances created but disaster struck when CCFL Substitute Tom Shiel was adjudged to have obstructed the Clare winger and again the Referee did not hesitate to point to the spot unfortunately the CCFL not only was the game suddenly level but the CCFL Player was given a straight red and they were down to 10 Players, Clare now visibly grew in confidence but this seemed to spark the CCFL into action and further strikes from Catha Callinan & Gio Russo, settled the issue which ensured that the CCFL qualified behind a very good Galway team as Group runners up.
The draw for the 2nd round of the competition handed the CCFL a very tough away draw against to the Donegal league to be played on the weekend of the 2nd February.
