Roundup Week 4
Premier Division action saw CK United take the scalp of Abbeyleix. The Tullamore based side were always in control of this tie with Trevor Wright, Ger ward, Damian Bracken and Brendan Bracken getting the goals. David Brennan replied for the Abbeyleix men.
Temple Villa got their campaign off to an excellent start with a fine 4-1 win at home to Highfield United. Anthony scored twice the second a penalty while Paul O’Brien and Eric Fallon made certain of the points.
Gracefield made it two wins from two however after they accounted for a plucky Clonbonny side in Portarlington by two goals to one. The heroes of the day for Gracefield were Robbie Knight who scored both goals and goalkeeper Jonathan Knight who saved a penalty with the game all square at 1-1.
Camlin United were very impressive in their 5-1 trouncing of Ballymahon in their Division 1 Saturday encounter. The Longford Town side were inspired by a superb hatrick from Paul Kane. Daniel Daly and Danny Maguire also found the net.
Division 2 saw Birr Town seconds travel to Athlone and come away with a fine 4-3 win over Gentex. Veteran Shane Corboy led the way with two well taken goals, and Willie Shortt and Gavin Guiffoyle added the others to secure the points for Birr.
Division 3A action saw Daingean Town keeping their promising early season form going with a fine 4-2 win away to new boys Clonminch Rovers. Two goals from Paul O’Rourke and further strikes from Ian Dunne and Joe Stapleton saw the Daingean men over the line.
In Division 3B the derby game between Clonown and Ericcsons finished 4-1 in favour of Ericcsons. The highlight of the game was a hatrick from John McIntyre with Danny Seery getting the fourth.
In Division 3 Saturday, Newtown got off the flying start by taking the scalp of Rathowen on a 2-0 scoreline. Newtown hit early through Enda MacKiernan and late through David Woods.
Division 4A is really hotting up. Abbeyleix left their calling card with an emphatic victory over CR Forest. Another veteran Anthony Coffey hit a double for the Abbeyleix men, with Mark Kirwan, Daniel Jones, Adrian Freeman, Willie Bowen and Daithi Brennan also getting in on the act.
Mountmellick United seconds were also in good scoring form when they hit Maryborough for six with young Kurt Clover giving a class display. On this form Mountmellick look to be the team to beat in this division. Their goalscorers were Ray Dunne (2), Robbie Ryan, Kevin Donogher, Paul Davis and David Lee. Sean O’Driscoll and Willie Bland replied for the Portlaoise men.
