Week 6 Round-Up

Riverside v Edenderry

Week 6 was a busy week in the CCFL. Both the Womens and Youths leagues kicked off their season and the first cup ties were played. Despite going a goal down Riverside ladies got the season off to a flyer with 3-1 win over Edenderry thanks to a double form Christeen Claffey and a goal from Roisin Sweeney. Kearns, Kelly and Malone getting the assists. Linda Claffey, Ciara Kelly, Amy Kilduff and Aine Kearns all put in a fine defensive display in front keeper Maryann Keena who produced some great saves throughout for Riverside..  In the other ladies match Mullingar Athletic came away from Tullamore with all 3 points after winning 3-1.

In the Under 17’s only one match was played, Portlaoise and Birr shared 10 goals in an incredible 5-5 draw.  The under 18’s had two matches, first up Killavilla ran out 6-0 winners versus St Aengus and in the other match Mountmellick defeated Tullamore 3-1.

It was a successful day for CCFL teams in the FAI Junior Cup with all three competing teams qualifying for the next round. Sean Moore scored in the 2-2 draw between Edenderry and Cavan Town in a match that had to go to penalties, an astonishing 21 penalties were scored with Edenderry eventually going through 11-10 winners.  Goals from Robbie Shine, Ronan Frawley and Brian Caldwell eased Willow Park into the next round with a 3-0 away to Marsh Celtic and in the other tie Mountmellick grabbed an impressive 4-0 victory away to Albion Rovers the goals coming from Tony Smith(2) Shane Dowling (2).

Mountmellick Under 19's

In the Senior Division Willow Parks cup match gave the chasing teams an opportunity to close the gap.  Mullingar Athletic Joined Willow Park on 16 points courtesy of a 3-2 win away to Clara and third placed Monksland took three points at home to Birr.  In the other Senior match Tom Behan was again on the score sheet, getting the only goal in 1-0 victory over St Peters.

Gallen United moved within two points of top spot in the Premier League, Paddy Moore, Declan Killian, Kieran Kenny and Shane Costello amongst the goals for Gallen in a 5-1 win over Rosenallis.  A Mark Dunne goal secured a point for CK Utd against Clonaslee.

In the top of the table clash in Division 1, a Stephen Hawkin goal was the difference as Abbeyleix came away from Tullamore with all three points.  Super Sub Enda Dolan came off the bench to bag a hatrick in Temple Villas 5-1 win over Noreside Celtic, Gavin Byrne and an Anthony Allen Penalty rounded of the scoring for Temple Villa.

Only 3 point seperate the top six in Division 2.  Dynamo Town went top after winning at Gracefield 4-3, Eamon Kelly and  Emmett Geoghan(2) getting the goals for Gracefield.  Gary Kelly and Aaron Joyce both scored for Gentex who move onto 9 points after beating Birr 2-1.  Shane Troy and Darren Screeney scored the goals for Kilcormac in their 2-2 at home to Walsh Island.

Killeigh Ramblers go top of Division 3A thanks to Paul Short who scored the only goal in their game against Daingean.  Declan Kelly(2) and Anthony Buckley got the goals for Pullough in their 3-1 win over Killavilla.

BBFC are still without a win in 3B after going down 2-1 at home to Gallen, Paddy Finnerty and Mark Minnock Scoring the goals for Gallen.  Raharney and Lawrencetown both still share top spot, Raharney made the trip to Athlone and won 2-1 away to Melville while Lawrencetown won 4-3 at home to Riverside.

Raheen made it 4 wins from 4 as they put three past Portlaoise without reply.  Abbeyleix entertained Midland Celtic but had to work hard and come back from 2-0 down to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.  Chris Stynes Jack Hyland and Adrian Freeman(2) the scorers for Abbeyleix.  Jody Davis, Gary Donaher and Ray Dunne all scored in Mountmellicks 3-1 win over Rosenallis.

In 4B Eastend Celtics 100% start to the season continued, JP Oleary, Keith Oconnor and Jay Melia all scoring against Clonmore in a 3-1 win to keep East End top of the table.  Colin Slevin made sure Derry Rovers kept in touch with leaders when he scored the only goal in their match against Monksland. The prolific Piotr Niewiadomski scored both goals for Eagles in their 2-2 draw with Clara Town.

Boro Celtic went top of Saturday Division One, David Harrison, Derek Murray both struck in the first half for Boro.  Declan Hanley added to Boros tally in the second half before Mostrim scored a great goal with ten minutes to go, final score Boro Celtic 3 Mostrim 1.
